Data Methodology

The waste volumes were estimated based on volumes of raw material imported and transformed in Bangladesh from the UN Comtrade Database and industry data collected from over 1,500 factories through the Reverse Resources network. A raw material waste percentage was calculated and applied to volumes of raw material transformed at each process to obtain an estimated yearly volume of waste generated. In order to create fibre breakdown of the textile waste available in Bangladesh, we used data collected within the CFP from 10 brands and 128 factory waste profiles. We then applied waste percentage calculated by mills and RMG factories to estimate yearly volumes of waste by key composition (i.e. 100% cotton).

Upcoming & Notes

The post-industrial waste volumes here are considered recycable waste, inclusing RMG and mill waste and not, reusable waste which would be deadstock or overproduction.
